Introducing Kids to the Game of Golf.

My first post – Greg Slosson

Growing up in Olympia, Washington there wasn’t a huge appeal  to me and my friends to go out in the cold and rain and learn the game of golf.  Luckily for me my Dad put a club in my hand and took me out and I immediately fell in love with the game.  I never had lessons or got instruction growing up, I guess I am truly a “feel player.”  That’s why I am very proud and pumped up about My Little Golfers.

Currently I am the Senior Assistant Golf Professional at Austin Country Club under Dale Morgan.  Working close with Dale and Ann Marie Gildersleeve is truly a blessing.  See, my life began in Washington State where I grew up and graduated from College thinking about going to veterinary school.  I always loved golf, played through High School, helping our team win state with my buddy Andres Gonzales; who plays full time on the PGA Tour.  I always loved golf, but didn’t know how to apply myself.  After moving down to Austin, TX I found my niche in life.  Everyday is a great day.  I am learning the ropes on how to manage a private Facility and get to Teach the Game of Golf to aspiring kiddos.  There is nothing better then watching a kids face when they hit the ball in the air.  You not only teach the game but you learn a lot from your students and always keep ya smiling.

My parents never once pushed me to play, or go practice.  My dad simply introduced the game to me.  I am a strong believer in letting your kids chose the path they want to go when it comes to sports.  Parents are like the school supplies; showing and giving their kids the tools and allowing them to use them as they wish.  If it wasn’t for my Dad introducing me to the game I would not be where I am today.  He never once told me to go practice out in the rain or go play golf when it was cold, I chose to do that because golf was so much fun, because it helps you become a honest person.
