Introducing Kids to the Game of Golf.

Safety first!

Last Friday, the girls and I took an evening trip to the golf course for some late afternoon playing.  Unfortunately, we never made it to the first tee.  We had an accident that I want to share with other parents to stress the importance of safety on the golf course.

Like we have done 100’s of times before, we took off down the cart path in the golf cart.  In less than 20 seconds after we left the pro shop, Ally (my 7 year old) had been tossed out of the golf cart onto the pavement.  I feel blessed that she walked away with a scrapped up arm and leg… and that it was not worse, like a broken arm or a concussion.

For me, it was an eye opener and really made me appreciate all the “hazards/risk” that are out on the golf course and parents need to be extra careful.  Example – cliffs, water drop offs, golf carts, snakes, etc.  The point is, as much fun as the golf course is, we still have to be extra safe.

A fact that I found related to my accident:

Based on CPSC statistics, roughly 40% of golf car accidents involve a person falling out of the car, and many of these accidents involve young children. In addition to ejection accidents, approximately 10% of golf car accidents involve a rollover and statistics indicate that such accidents are roughly twice as likely to lead to injuries requiring a hospital stay as non-rollover accidents. My advice for parents, exercise safety when you take your children out to the golf course!  Be aware that the there are some “hazards” that can present danger and risk. I would hate to hear of any of my friend’s children being hurt… especially when it could be prevented.
